Owners & Friends of the Marquette Food Co-op,
Although we appreciate your enthusiasm for our recent purchase and plans for expansion, we hope that you will be respectful of the businesses that remain housed in 502 W. Washington. As it takes time from their busy day to accommodate member visitors to our new store location, we ask that you refrain from visiting the site just yet. Please understand that there are multiple reasons for you to remain patient in regard to checking out our new digs; the most obvious one is that those businesses that remain there still use much of the facility in their daily operations. We will announce an open house day for Marquette Food Co-op owners to visit and have a good look at the structure. Until then, please be respectful of the businesses there, as they have much to do as they vacate the premises. We have made certain time agreements with them and will be working with them soon to facilitate the ease of their transition.

On February 10th, the Co-op closed on its purchase agreement for 502 West Washington Street. We also purchased the Coney Joint building next door, which will become the Co-op deli’s production kitchen. The Coney Joint building was purchased at a negotiated rate, mitigating the cost of constructing our own facility.
Congratulations everyone—we got it!
The Board of Directors and the Management of the Marquette Food Co-op has news regarding the expansion of the Co-op. We have a signed purchased agreement on the building at 502 W. Washington, also known as the Northern Stationers Building. We hope to close in February of 2012.
502 W. Washington affords us the best opportunity to meet member need as communicated to us in the past year of information gathering. We will have wider aisles. We will have plenty of parking. We will have greater selection. We will have more local food and products. We will have a kitchen/deli. We will have community and meeting space. We will have better backroom facilities and storage.
Most importantly this building and location allows the Marquette Food Co-op to continue being responsive to your needs. This space will allow for our sustained, responsible, and cooperative growth for years to come.

The October Board of Directors meeting has been canceled.
The MFC’s Board of Director’s has proposed a bylaw change, detailed here. Please cast your vote at the store customer service desk starting Monday, October 10. Last chance to vote will be at the annual Harvest Potluck, starting 5:30pm on Friday, October 21, at the Marquette Armory.
