GMO Labeling and the DARK Act
A new bill regarding food labeling of genetically modified organisms has passed the House and is up for President Obama to either Veto or sign into law. The bill, dubbed the “DARK Act”, instead of mandating simple labeling, would give companies the option of using a scannable QR code to direct consumers to GMO information. The issue with this option, many critics say, is that many Americans do not have smart phones in order to scan these codes and learn about exactly what went into their food. If you’d like to learn more about how this issue will effect your shopping experience or how to contact the White House to urge President Obama to veto this bill, visit the Center for Food Safety website.
