Local Farm Tours

The annual local farm tours sponsored by the Marquette Food Co-op will take place on Sunday, August 28th and Sunday, September 11th this year.  The August tour date will include Rock River Perennial Garden in Chatham, Grand Bees Apiary in Pelkie, Virgin Earth Farm in Republic, Seeds & Spores Family Farm in Marquette, and Reh-Morr Farm in Eben Junction.  The September date includes the MSU North Farm in Chatham, Wintergreen Farm in Ontonagon, and Treasa’s Treasures in Munising.  The tours run from 12-5 pm for both dates.  The events are free and run rain or shine so please dress appropriately.

For eleven years, the Marquette Food Co-op has been coordinating tours of local farms to offer everyone the opportunity to connect with local food. In that span of time, the food landscape in the U.P. has changed to reflect an increasing interest in supporting local economies, the growth of farmers markets, and more people focused on the connections between food, health, and healthy communities. The farms are the backbone of this movement, because it is their risk, their hard work and ingenuity – and their food – that has been driving our local food revolution.
