Our enthusiastic cashiers love customer questions. We take personal interest in your Co-op experience, asking how you’d like groceries packed and if you’d like a helping hand out to your vehicle.
We invite you to come into the store and try a new way of grocery shopping. Unlike a typical shopping experience, we strive to accommodate your needs as a person, not just a consumer. Our store is chock full of interesting products—don’t hesitate to ask for an employee to help you navigate!
Beer & Wine
You’ll find our coolers stocked with quality beer crafted right here in Marquette, just blocks from our Co-op. We also have a great mix of other regional, national, and global offerings in every style, from drinkable lagers to full-bodied IPAs and fruity sours. If wine is your drink of choice, we provide a wide selection made from organically grown grapes. You’ll find a perfect pairing for your meal at any price range. We also carry seltzers, canned cocktails, and non-alcoholic and gluten-free beer.
Bulk
Our bulk section offers a wide variety of high-quality unpackaged products that allow shoppers to buy just the amount they need. From organic spices, sugar, and flour to grains, beans, and snack items, the bulk section emphasizes affordability, freshness, and sustainability. We even have nut grinders for fresh peanut or almond butter, loose leaf teas, and local coffee beans and honey. You’re welcome to bring your own jar or use the bags or containers supplied in store.
Cheese
Whether you’re building an impressive cheese board for a gathering or grabbing a single wedge for tonight’s dinner recipe, the Co-op’s cheese department will have what you need. From the mildest Emmental to the boldest Limburger, the offers a diverse selection of more than 100 varieties from around the world. Our staff is always happy to assist in selecting the perfect cheese for any occasion.
Grocery
We offer experienced and knowledgeable customer service and a wide array of products that fit every dietary need. Our grocery department sources sustainable food and household items made by socially conscious producers from around the globe and down the street. You’ll find organic options for less with our Field Day house brand, as well as high-end and hard-to-find ingredients. Grab a Co-op Deals sales flyer at the main entrance and find clear shelf tags throughout the store to easily find sale items, staff picks, locally-made products, etc.
Prepared Foods
Our talented and hard-working Prepared Foods team keeps the hot bar, salad bar, and grab & go coolers stocked with convenient options prioritizing freshness, flavor, and nutrition. Enjoy globally inspired dishes on the hot bar, a colorful salad bar with organic veggies, and tons of pre-packaged options like sandwiches, deli salads, sushi, and more. Ingredients are high quality and organic when possible, and we avoid using products that contain things like artificial colors and preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, etc. Dishes on our hot bar are made in house by our PF staff using raw ingredients from Co-op Partners Warehouse, United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), and Sysco. Items are clearly labeled with all ingredients. Please note that some items are pre-made (soups, some grab&go salads, and mac & cheese on the hot bar) to keep up with demand. These items are labeled appropriately.
Meat and Seafood
We carry a range of products to meet the needs of every budget. You will find many options in our Meat & Seafood coolers – local and regional offerings, certified humanely raised, grass-fed, and organic. Our MFC branded products are cut, ground or blended in-house and created with care to make dinnertime easy.
Outreach
The Outreach Department brings our Co-op into the hearts and minds of the greater community through food demos, cooking class and visits to local schools and organizations. Outreach works with owners and the general public alike to make healthy food accessible and exciting. We also work to educate current owners of the benefits inherent in their ownership.
Outreach works to make local food visible in our community for the benefit of farms and food businesses to create a vibrant local food system. This includes food safety training for farmers. Our Co-op is recognized as a nationwide leader in requiring food safety practices, providing education, and assisting small and very small farms in food safety certification. Through the U.P. Food Exchange, the Co-op partners with other agencies around the U.P. to promote local food and expand markets to grow good food businesses.
Outreach is responsible for cooking classes, gardening and homesteading workshops, managing a community hoop house, farm tours, social event planning, store promotions, support of local farms and farmers’ markets, volunteer coordination, advertising, publications, maintaining our database of owner records, and much more.
Produce
The Co-op considers local to be from the Upper Peninsula and works diligently with local family farms to source fresh, nutrient dense produce. Most regional, national and international crops are sourced from Co-op Partners Warehouse (CPW) in Minneapolis is certified organic and, when available, fair trade. From staple items like crisp greens and fair-trade bananas to specialty items like locally foraged mushrooms and exotic citrus, the MFC is the place to shop for fresh produce.
Receiving
Receiving deals with the products’ journey from the distributors to the shelves of the Co-op: unloading trucks, checking in product, inspecting products and applying for credit from distributors if problems arise, price checking, and inventory. Receiving is also very involved with Special Orders, making phone calls on truck days to let folks know that their orders have arrived successfully.
Wellness
From organic essential oils to nontoxic skincare and quality, certified vitamins and supplements, the Co-ops Wellness section has everything you need to support a clean, intentional lifestyle. Our knowledgeable staff does all the research to ensure ingredients are natural and meet quality and safety standards so you can shop knowing only the best options are in front of you.
Marquette Baking Co.
Baked locally and cooperatively owned — delivered fresh daily.
The Marquette Baking Co. is an off branch of the grocery store, owned by Co-op members and operated by the MFC. In the store, you’ll find artisanal bread, cakes, cookies, granola, and other freshly baked goods made from scratch using traditional, hands-on methods by our talented team of bakers. The offsite bakery is located on Baraga Ave. and delivers to the Co-op daily.
