Board Application
Thank you for your interest in running for Marquette Food Co-op’s Board of Directors!
The following information should be read thoroughly. You will need to fill out all parts of the application. The application is available annually from October 15 through January 15.
Board Members are expected to
- Understand and promote the mission of the Co-op
- Understand the role of the Board of Director
- Attend monthly board meetings regularly and notify the Board President prior to any absence
- Serve on committees effectively
- Assess their own performance as board directors
- Act in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Board code of Conduct
Time Commitment
The total monthly time commitment will vary throughout the year depending upon committee assignments and intensity of board work. Generally it will run between six and twelve hours a month. Board members are expected to attend the Annual Co-op Meeting and Social held in March. They are also expected to spend one Saturday a year at the annual board retreat, currently held in January.
Compensation
Board members receive a monthly $70 in-store credit.
Term Limits
The Marquette Food Co-op has nine directors, each serving a three-year term. Directors may serve three consecutive terms, for a total of nine years. After three terms, a member must wait one year before running again.
It varies from year to year as to how many seats are open. The Nominations Committee is charged with recommending a slate of candidates who can provide leadership for the Co-op.
Please be aware that information from the application will be shared publicly, both virtually and in the store. The questions are intended to help the public learn more about candidates so they can be informed voters. Candidates will also be required to submit a photo or to make an appointment with the MFC Outreach Department for a portrait to be taken. This photo will accompany the application information.
